E50/E100 - Q. What's the maximum length of loudspeaker cable I can run from the keypad?

Answer:

This really depends on the gauge of the loudspeaker cable being used, but if we take the cable that is included with your E50 or E100 which is 19AWG (American Wire Gauge), and then assume the the loudspeakers will be 8 ohm impedance (as we supply in the form of QAcoustics QInstall), the maximum for a single stereo pair would be 10 metres from the keypad to each loudspeaker.

if you are looking to connect a second pair (wired in parallel) the maximum cable run we would advise is 5 metres; this would include any intermediary switch such as the QED WM15, which can be used to switch alternate pairs on/off or both pairs together.

Should you wish to extend beyond these distances, you'll need a loudspeaker cable with a larger conductor such as 16AWG as found in our QED Pro QX16/2 an QX16/4. Using this cable with an 8 ohm loudspeaker pair, you could achieve up to 30 metres, or if paralleled with a second pair of 8 ohm loudspeakers, you could achieve up to 20 metres without compromising volume levels.
